Drop Chance of Mounts Greatly Increased!

Mounts from World Bosses Greatly Increased!

Drop Chance of Mounts Greatly Increased:

Due to a recent issue involving the Dracthyr Evoker, Blizzard has opted to “greatly increase” the drop rate on difficult-to-obtain Mounts from World Bosses within Mists of Pandaria and Warlords of Draenor for all players.

Why Has This Happened?

On the release of the new Hero Class: Dracthyr Evoker, players could defeat World Bosses from Mists of Pandaria and Warlords of Draenor, and with no specific loot for their class, the chance to obtain the mount was subsequently at 100% drop chance.

According to reports, Blizzard was informed of these issues during BETA testing but didn’t take the appropriate action before the release of Phase Two of the Pre-Patch to prevent this issue from occurring.

Nonetheless, Blizzard implemented a hotfix shortly after and adjusted the drop rate accordingly. With the inability to remove the mounts from those Dracthyr players, it’s believed that Blizzardgreatly increased” the drop rate for all players.

However, If you’ve stopped farming these mounts for whatever reason or have never farmed these mounts before, now would be a good time to restart or start farming.

The Mounts?

Here’s a list of the Mounts (including the World Bosses) that have had their drop rates “greatly increased” by Blizzard.

Bonus Rolls:

It should be noted that there are Bonus Rolls available for the Mounts. Below I’ve covered the tokens required, how to obtain them, and the World Bosses you can use them on.

Elder Charm of Good Fortune:

To farm Elder Charm of Good Fortune, you can travel to the Isle of Thunder and defeat all the rares on the island. Alternatively, you can farm Lesser Charm of Good Fortune by killing alternative rares and completing Dailies.

You’ll need 20x Lesser Charm of Good Fortune to purchase an Elder Charm of Good Fortune from Commander Lo Ping, in Townlong Steppes (coordinates [37.64]).

World Bosses: Sha of Anger and Galleon.

Mogu Rune of Fate:

You can purchase Mogu Rune of Fate from Mistweaver Ai on the Timeless Isle after acquiring 1000 Timeless Coins. Farming Gulp Frogs used to be the best method to farm Timeless Coins, but it appears the best strategy is farming here [source: Thraun Gaming].

World Bosses: Oondasta and Nalak.

Fast Travel to the Timeless Isle:

The quickest method is talking to Chromie within the Vale of Eternal Blossoms; there is a balcony above the entrance to the Dungeon: Mogu’shan Palace

She will offer you a quest: Journey to the Timeless Isle; use the timepiece to teleport straight to the Timeless Isle. Once you reach your destination, abandon the quest so you can use this method again in the future!

Reminder: If you have the Phase: N’zoth Assault, speak to Zidormi to access the Vale before the N’zoth invasion

Soloing the World Bosses:

In order to successfully solo the World Bosses below, ensure you’re level 48 and don’t have Chromie Time active (current timeline active). If you’re lower than level 47, make sure other players are there to help!

Reminder, you must meet a level requirement to loot the World Bosses. Confirmation can be found below for each World Boss.

Oondasta:

Oondasta is a World Boss found on the Isle of Giants, Kun-Lai Summit, Pandaria, at the coordinates: [50.54]. Be aware that Oondasta has a respawn timer of 15 minutes from the last time it was killed.

Once you’ve defeated the World Boss, you’ll have a chance to obtain either gear (Transmog purposes) or the mount: Reins of the Cobalt Primordial Direhorn.

Reminder: You can use the Mogu Rune of Fate to Bonus Roll on the Mount. You must be level 35 or above to loot this boss!

Furthermore, if you’re a Hunter looking to tame this World Boss, please be considerate to other players. Taming Oondasta will despawn him, and other players must wait another 15 minutes. I’d suggest taming late at night to avoid disappointing other players, as I did on my Hunter.

If this is your first kill, you will earn the achievement: Millions of Years of Evolution vs. My Fist.

Cobalt Primordial Direhorn

Sha of Anger:

Sha of Anger is a World Boss found within Kun-Lai Summit, Pandaria, at the coordinates: [53.65]. Be aware that Sha of Anger has a respawn timer between 10-20 minutes from the last time it was killed.

Once you’ve defeated the World Boss, you’ll have a chance to obtain either gear (Transmog purposes) or the mount: Reins of the Heavenly Onyx Cloud Serpent.

Reminder: You can use the Elder Charm of Good Fortune to Bonus Roll on the Mount. You must be level 35 or above to loot the boss

If this is your first kill, you will earn the achievement: Settle Down, Bro.

Heavenly Onyx Cloud Serpent

Nalak:

Nalak is a World Boss found in front of the raid entrance: Throne of Thunder, on the Isle of Thunder at the coordinates: [53.65]. Be aware that Nalak has a respawn timer between 10-20 minutes from the last time it was killed.

Nalak will yell a zone-wide announcement:I am born of thunder!” when he spawns!

When defeating the World Boss, you’ll have a chance to obtain either gear (Transmog purposes) or the mount: Reins of the Thundering Cobalt Cloud Serpent.

Reminder: You can use the Mogu Rune of Fate to Bonus Roll on the Mount. You must be level 35 or above to loot this boss!

If this is your first kill, you will earn the achievement: Praise the Sun!

Thundering Colbalt Cloud Serpent

Rukhmar:

Rukhmar is a World Boss found within the Spires of Arak, Draenor, at the coordinates: [37.38]. It’s worth waiting on the stand high up as Rukhmar spawns at the top before dropping to the ground. Be aware that Rakhmar has a respawn timer of 15 minutes from the last time it was killed.

Upon defeating the World Boss, you’ll have a chance to obtain either gear (Transmog purposes) or the mount: Solar Spirehawk.

Reminder: You cannot win this Mount via a Bonus Roll. You’ll need to be level 40 or above to loot this boss!

If this is your first kill, you will earn the achievement: So Grossly Incandescent.

Solar Spirehawk

Galleon:

Galleon is a World Boss found within the Valley of the Four Winds, Pandaria, at the coordinates: [71.64]. Be aware that Galleon has a respawn timer of 15 minutes from the last time it was killed.

Galleon will yell a zone-wide announcement:Loot and pillage, bwahaha!” when he spawns.

When defeating the World Boss, you’ll have a chance to obtain either gear (Transmog purposes) or the Mount: Son of Galleon’s Saddle.

Reminder: You can use the Elder Charm of Good Fortune to Bonus Roll on the Mount. You must be level 35 or above to loot the boss!

If this is your first kill, you will earn the achievement: Extinction Event.

Son of Galleon

Alts:

Importantly, if you’re an altoholic, this will benefit you. If you have an alt that meets the level requirements to loot these bosses, defeat the bosses on each alt every week to increase your chances of obtaining these mounts.

Mount Farming:

However, If you enjoy farming mounts, consider my previous blog post: Dragonflight Waiting Room – Mount Farming, shedding some light on farmable mounts from other aspects of the game.

The Black Market Auction House:

Remember, if you’re a player with no interest in farming these mounts and have a significant amount of gold available, I remind you that these mounts randomly become available from the Black Market Auction House

Be prepared to pay the gold cap (9.99m gold) to guarantee the purchase of the Mount.

The Knock-on Effect:

Thankfully, most players are pleased with the changes; however, many of the elite mount farmers (that farmed many years to obtain their mount(s)) are already showing their discontent.

One player has rumored to have successfully had their Dragonflight pre-purchase refunded due to their disagreement with the changes.

Previously, I was in a similar position to this when Blizzard adjusted the Bind on Equip on a Toy to a Bind on Pickup, meaning they lumbered me with many items I could no longer sell.

Upon contacting a GM, they reminded me that: “Blizzard has the right to change the game (at any time) to benefit/impact the game’s wider community.” Additionally, I feel this is the case in this instance!
