Mage Tower & Legion Timewalking

Legion Timewalking Event & Mage Tower Changes...

The Return of the Legion Timewalking Event:

Some of you may not be aware, but on the 12th of April for U.S players (the 13th of April for E.U players), we’ll see the long-awaited return of the World Event: Legion Timewalking. This event was an extremely profitable market last time due to the re-emergence/release of the Mage Tower.

When the event opened for the first time, I managed to earn 10 million gold over the first seven days. Sadly, if you’ve frequently been monitoring Wowhead (or alternative websites), you’ll be aware that the Mage Tower has a significant change at the end of this month.

Mage Tower Changes:

The Mage Tower will no longer need the World Event: Legion Timewalking; instead, it will be permanently open, starting from the next reset on the 29th of March for U.S players (the 30th of March for E.U players).

Previously, players had a couple of weeks to obtain their gear and complete the Mage Tower challenges before it closed. Due to the time restraint, players were paying outrageous prices for crafted equipment and consumables to quickly obtain the achievements.

With the new changes and the Mage Tower open permanently, players can now casually obtain their gear and consumables at their own pace, ultimately affecting gold-makers in the long run.

Confirmation of Mage Tower changes via Wowhead.

The Effect on Gold-Makers:

With no time limit, players can obtain the best gear for their class/character instead of rushing and purchasing crafted items. Consumables should still be profitable, and maybe BiS crafted gear, but most of the PvP gear may not be profitable any longer.

I’m merely guessing at this point, but if I had the choice of farming the best gear or paying thousands of gold for easily obtainable gear, I’d instead farm the best gear, knowing I have all the time in the world to complete the Mage Tower challenges.

However, players who have time restraints due to priorities outside of the game may still opt to purchase the gear.

Suspended/Banned Players:

It’s also worth reminding you that Blizzard recently suspended/banned players that were found guilty of having their accounts piloted through the Mage Tower.

I remind you, in case you may feel that interest in the Mage Tower may not be as high as last time, but I beg to differ. There were a lot of players affected by this that will no doubt be looking to obtain their Mage Tower achievements again – legally.

Timewalking Spreadsheet:

If you’d like a detailed spreadsheet outlining the best gear for each class for the Timewalking Event (including the Mage Tower), check out this spreadsheet. This spreadsheet also details a lot of crafted consumables and equipment that may interest you.

Farming:

The best gems are via Dragon Soul. These gems were selling for between 5-10 thousand gold each. These gems are difficult to acquire as you purchase them from motes obtained from killing bosses, and due to the drop rate, these gems are limited; hence the high valuations.

If you’ve not been farming up to this point, you should make an effort to do so now in preparation.

For information regarding this, check out my blog post here.

Adapting is the Key:

As the Mage Tower changes are only a couple of days old, it’s too soon to assess the knock-on effect on gold-makers compared to the first time the Mage Tower opened. When significant changes occur, I always remind my readers to adapt quickly to stay ahead of their competition.

If crafts are not selling, consider reducing your valuation or removing it from your posting routines. Alternatively, if they’re selling well, try increasing your valuation and profiting from the changes as early as possible.

Some gold-makers may not have realized the new changes, and we can profit from this. Don’t forget, the last time the Mage Tower was open, it accompanied the World Event: Legion Timewalking, which may have positively affected sales too.

Adapting is the key!

Timewalking: The Burning Crusade

Timewalking: The Burning Crusade.

Timewalking Burning Crusade:

This Timewalking event: Burning Crusade is a fantastic opportunity if you need to reach Revered and Exalted reputation for Factions within Outland. There are plenty of recipes, transmog locked behind these reputation milestones, i.e., Shattered Sun Offensive, Keeper’s of Time, and The Consortium, to name a few.

With the buff: Sign of the Twisted Nether, we get a 50% increase in reputation gains from combat and quests. So if you plan on doing the dailies for the Shattered Sun Offensive, along with doing the Normal/Heroic runs of Magister’s Terrace, this is the best time to do it!

You must be level 50 or above to participate in the random Timewalking dungeon.

Check those Alts!

If you remember my post regarding the World Event: WoW’s Anniversary, and followed my advice, to log in all your alts, you will have earnt some easy Timewarped Badges on them. Now is their moment to shine!

If your character is level 30 or above, they can access the vendor Cupri.

Log all your level 30 alts, and purchase any commendations you need and mail them to the character that requires the reputation boost. If you’re unsure what commendations are, and where to buy them, check out the next part of this blog post: Reputations to Grind.

Reputations To Grind:

Here’s a reminder of some of the factions to grind during this Timewalking Event.

Alternatively, check out the Timewalking vendor, Cupri. She sells an assortment of items for your hard-earned Timewarped Badges, including commendations. Here’s a list of commendations that will be of interest to you.

For a very well-detailed guide on farming reputations with Outland factions during the Timewalking: Burning Crusade event, check out Wowhead’s guide.

Reputation Tokens:

You may wish to either purchase these from the Auction House or check out Wowhead, for the best places to farm them. Remember, handing in these tokens, while under the buff: Sign of the Twisted Nether will reward you with a 50% extra reputation!

Cenarion Expedition:

Unidentified Plant Parts (Hand in up to Friendly)

Lower City:

Arakkoa Feather (Hand in until Honored)

The Aldor:

Mark of Kil’jaeden (Hand in until Honored)
Mark of Sargeras (Hand in until Exalted)
Fel Armament (Hand in until Exalted)

The Scryers:

Firewing Signet (Hand in until Honored)
Sunfury Signet (Hand in until Exalted)
Arcane Tome (Hand in until Exalted)

If you’re considering obtaining the Achievement: Hero of Shattrath you will need to farm or purchase the following items in order to decrease the reputation with the faction you were exalted with first.

Dampscale Basilisk Eye (Aldor to The Scryers Neutral)
Dreadfang Venom Sac (The Scryers to Aldor Neutral)

Farming Instances & Dailies to farm Rep:

Once you hit a reputation milestone for a specific Faction, you will be restricted to earning reputation either via Faction specific dailies, or instances associated with the Faction.

Check out Wowhead’s Rep farming guide. Scroll down to The Burning Crusade!

Bag of Fishing Treasures:

Another great shout is purchasing the Bag of Fishing Treasures from Cupri. This bag will set you back 150 Timewarped Badges. It has the chance to reward you with a BoP companion pet; there are four available.

I’d only recommend doing this method if you have nothing else to purchase with your Timewarped Badges. Alternatively, shop the Auction House for these pets instead.

Ideally, you want to purchase these pets while the event is active, when the event has finished, these companion pets will become valuable once more. I regularly post these at 7.5k-10k each for a level 1 battle pet. If you have a level 25, consider adding 5k on top of its value.

Recipes of Interest:

There are far too many recipes to name, but I can assure you there’s a lot of gold to be made by acquiring some of the recipes locked behind Outland factions.

We’re not looking to flip these recipes, more so, learn them and craft the items.

Here are a few notable mentions from past experiences.

Recipe: Flask of Supreme Power (Keepers of Time)
Formula: Enchant Weapon – Greater Agility (The Violet Eye)
Jewelcrafting Recipes (Shattered Sun Offensive)

Some Sales highlighting how profitable these recipes are!

Consumables:

As a reminder (especially for those that are not already familiar with Timewalking and the Mage Tower) there are scaling benefits for min-maxing your gear for participating in Timewalking content. Ideally, you want to have the best gear, gem slots, and consumables, but be aware of potential Legendary, Legion Legendary effects, and Azerite Power restrictions.

Remember, the more gem slots on your gear the better!

Gems:

The gems from Dragon Soul (Queen’s Garnet cuts) are best in slot. However, if you’re low on funds, always consider other gem cuts, Primordial Ruby, Inferno Ruby, Cardinal Ruby, and Crimson Spinel. The meta gems are very significant too.

Enchants:

Due to level restrictions/limitations with enchants you need to follow a simple rule.

If your item is;

Below ilvl 50, use an enchant below level 50.
Above ilvl 50, use a level 50 enchant
.

Belt Buckles:

As mentioned above, gem slots are important, so equipping a belt buckle will add a gem slot to your waist. Ideally, you want the Living Steel Belt Buckle.

Check the r/Timewalking team for Timewalking tips and tricks. Also, there’s a great guide via Wowhead for optimizing your gear for all Timewalking Events. Make sure you follow the information regarding the event you’re interested in, importantly, TBC!
