The Shadowlands pre-patch, brought the impending level and item level squish, so the need to update a lot of the posts within this blog has become essential for all my readers.
Darkmoon Daggermaw:
Darkmoon Daggermaw is essentially a fish that can be fished during the Darkmoon Faire. The Faire is a World Event which visits on the first Sunday of each month and lasts for one week. There’s an incredible amount of things to do within the Darkmoon Faire, all of which you can learn of here.
How to acquire Darkmoon Daggermaw’s:
When you fish along the shores of Darkmoon Island, it’s possible to fish up Darkmoon Daggermaw’s via three methods. Fishing in the open water, fishing within a Shipwreck Debris (Sealed Darkmoon Crate) and the best yield is fishing up a rare Bloated Thresher. Be warned that Sealed Darkmoon Crates and Bloated Thresher’s do not stack within your inventory, failure to adhere to this limitation will prevent you from fishing up more until you create space in your bags for additional loot. With the recent changes with Shadowlands, the stack size of Darkmoon Daggermaw have increased from 200 to 500 per stack.
Yields:
Open Water Catch: 0-1 Darkmoon Daggermaw
Sealed Darkmoon Debris: 2-5 Darkmoon Daggermaw
Bloated Thresher: 5-10 Darkmoon Daggermaw
If the sound of fishing puts you off, thankfully these are purchasable from the Auction House. Be prepared to pay anywhere between 15g-75g dependant on the population and economy of your realm.
Spending your Darkmoon Daggermaw’s:
So you’ve fished up or purchased your Darkmoon Daggermaw’s, and you’re unsure what to do with them. Below are some great options for you to potentially make gold or maybe make your life easier running Mythic+ or gathering Herbs, Ore or Skinning.
Galissa Sundew is the vendor of interest to us, as she sells several items for Darkmoon Daggermaw. She sells Companions, a toy, a mount and a quest item, that starts the quest Silas’ Secret Stash.
One-time Quest:
For 100 Darkmoon Daggermaw, we can purchase the quest starter, Faded Treasure Map. The map starts the quest, Silas’ Secret Stash. We can only complete the quest once per character. If you’re unsure whether you’ve completed this quest on your character already, enter this script into the chatbox in-game.
/script print(IsQuestFlaggedCompleted(38934))
- True = Completed
- False = Not Completed
Upon completing this quest, we’ll be rewarded with 100 Darkmoon Tickets; these are beneficial for purchasing items of greater value. Check out my post regarding Replica Transmog, to learn more.
Cooking Recipes:
There are three recipes available from Galissa, one of which can be sold on the Auction House; the other two are worthwhile if you’ve not purchased and learned them already.
Cooking:
Recipe: Lemon Herb Fillet – Cost: 10 Darkmoon Daggermaw (BoE)
Recipe: Suger-Crusted Fish Feast – Cost: 25 Darkmoon Daggermaw
Recipe: Fancy Darkmoon Feast – Cost: 50 Darkmoon Daggermaw
Coming in Shadowlands:
Recipe: Extra Lemony Herb Fillet – Cost: 10 Darkmoon Daggermaw (BoE)
Recipe: Extra Sugary Fish Feast – Cost: 25 Darkmoon Daggermaw
Recipe: Extra Fancy Darkmoon Feast – Cost 50 Darkmoon Daggermaw
The Recipe: Lemon Herb Fillet and Recipe: Extra Lemony Herb Fillet are the only BoE recipes, meaning if you’ve already learned these recipes, you can place these on the Auction House or send them to an alt. These recipes, are useful, because the versatility buff from the food, is suitable for players running Mythic+ content. However, the recipes pre Shadowlands had their versatility buff nerfed. It’s too soon to see how the new Recipe: Extra Lemony Herb Fillet will fair in Shadowlands.
Toy and Companion Pets:
Listed below are the toy and companion pets we can purchase from Galissa Sundew.
- Seafarer’s Slidewhistle: Binds on pickup, only purchase this, if you haven’t bought and learned it already!
- Blorp’s Bubble: This is not a Battle Pet! If you want to sell this, do not not learn it, once learned, you cannot cage it to trade.
- Translucent Shell: This is a Battle Pet! Once learned, this pet can be caged and traded to other players.
Darkwater Skate:
Without a doubt, the most expensive item Galissa sells. The mount Darkwater Skate will set you back 500 Darkmoon Daggermaw. Only purchase this mount if you’ve not bought and learned it already.
Darkmoon Firewater:
This potion Darkmoon Firewater is excellent for players that enjoy gathering. The potion reduces gathering time for Skinning, Mining and Herbalism for one hour. Be aware you only receive one Darkmoon Firewater potion for 25 Darkmoon Daggermaw. The price for this potion (in my eyes) is exceptionally high. I’d consider purchasing the potions from the Auction House instead, valued at approximately 75g-125g. Prices depend on the population and economy of your realm and whether the Faire is open or closed.

Flipping Darkmoon Daggermaw:
If you have no interest in using the fish to purchase items from Galissa, or for cooking, there’s a lot of value in flipping these on the Auction House. As mentioned before, dependant on the population and economy of your realm you can purchase the Darkmoon Daggermaw’s for between 15g-75g. We want to buy the fish, whilst the Faire is open (when the Auction House is saturated) then sell them when the Faire is closed, or about to open (when the supply is low and demand is high). I aim to pay approximately 25g per fish, then look to flip them between 50g-75g and possibly as high as 100g each.
Back in 2016, I had my Darkmoon Daggermaw sales published on the Icy Veins Gold-Making forum, thanks to Peelyon. This was around the time, the mount Darkwater Skate was first released. However, don’t be put off thinking this doesn’t still work… it does! These still sell in large quantities and profit margins, buy and sell these at the right time to maximise profits.
