GoldMaking in The War Within

GoldMaking in The War Within

GoldMaking in The War Within:

Those of you who follow me on Facebook will be aware of my lack of GoldMaking since the release of The War Within. For those who don’t know, many issues revolving around the Auction House throttling meant posting auctions was extremely tedious. Instead, I just played other aspects of the game.

However, now that things have improved, I will share many of the activities I’m working on, which may offer you some insight to broaden your GoldMaking.

Timewalking: The Burning Crusade

This week, Timewalking returns, and we can complete dungeons and raids within the expansion: The Burning Crusade. Scaling has made the dungeons and raids extremely easy to complete, so much so that Blizzard has recently revealed that they are changing how dungeons and raids scale. These changes will come into effect with patch 11.0.5.

For a TLDR, Blizzard will scale enemies to your current level instead of the level of the instance. This option is similar to the scaling during MoP Remix, and I’m sure you remember the fun and games during that event! 🤦‍♂️

This news has already hurt the Timewalking community, particularly those who enjoy min-maxing their characters with trivial gear to make Timewalking easier. So, if you haven’t completed the Mage Tower, this is your last chance to cheese it – I think I’ve muttered those words before! 😂

For those of you checking me out on Facebook, you will know that this Timewalking event is an excellent opportunity to bank up Timewarped Badges in preparation for the 20th Anniversary event coming soon. There are many items available for Timewarped Badges. With the ability to transfer currencies within your Warband, items are easily affordable. Ensure you complete the quest: The Swirling Vial on all your characters!

Concerning GoldMaking during this Timewalking event, pay close attention to the four Battle Pets. Although they have lost a lot of value, they’re easier to obtain during this event, thanks to the Bag of Fishing Treasures from Cupri. The pets are Chuck, Muckbreath, Snarly, and Toothy.

Although this article is outdated, please check out my Timewalking: The Burning Crusade guide, which details activities and things to do during this event!

World Event: Brewfest

Brewfest is, without a doubt, one of my favorite events. I don’t participate in many activities, but there is a niche market for GoldMaking. Two weapons are available with many ilvl variants based on your level at the time of looting. To ignore the lottery, check out the Auction House for potential bargains.

The two weapons are Tremendous Tankard O’ Terror and Terrific Tankard O’ Terror. With The War Within, we’re interested in the level 70 and level 80 variants, which are ilvl 467 and ilvl 571, respectively.

When players loot these weapons, they post them on the Auction House, sometimes not considering the ilvl and undercutting the cheapest item. Ideally, you want to purchase weapons at a specific level/ilvl. Here’s a brief list of the highest ilvl determined by level.

  • Level 10 – ilvl 41
  • Level 20 – ilvl 25
  • Level 30 – ilvl 89
  • Level 40 – ilvl 120
  • Level 50 – ilvl 82
  • Level 60 – ilvl 236
  • Level 70 – ilvl 467 (*)
  • Level 80 – ilvl 571 (*)

(*) denotes the new ilvl for The War Within.

As you can see, the ilvl 467 variant for a level 70 is excellent, and this piece is exempt from upgrades via valorstones. However, the ilvl 571 for level 80 is on the Adventurer track, meaning you can upgrade the ilvl to 593!

Brewfest ends on October 6th, so there is plenty of time to farm or scour the Auction House for these weapons! I suggest holding off on posting them until the event ends; I tend to sell more when the event has finished!

Although the guide is outdated, World Event: Brewfest will give you an idea of what is available during this event.

The War Within GoldMaking:

As you all know, I rarely dabble in current content markets. This is purely because of the volatile markets and the extreme efforts some make to cancel scan undercut auctions. For someone like myself who doesn’t have the time, it’s impossible to babysit the auctions at the Auction House.

Sadly, as mentioned at the beginning of this article, the Auction House issues made it difficult to operate with Old World markets. The throttling resulted in very slow posting; on some occasions, it took up to 25 minutes to successfully post all the items in my bag. It became so frustrating that, at one point, I even posted manually!

With the vast number of items in my inventory spanning over 80 characters, I gave up trying to post and instead created alts and mailed everything to store in mailboxes so it didn’t expire. This method gave me 30 days, hoping Blizzard would find a fix, which, thankfully, they did.

Profession Equipment:

I dabbled in the Profession Equipment market, buying up undervalued pieces (mainly tools with a random stat) with either Ingenuity, Multicraft, or Resourcefulness and Deftness or Perception on gathering tools. Then, I found other realms to post them on with little to no competition. On some occasions, I made between 15 and 25k profit per item.

The Profession Equipment market during the early part of the expansion is always profitable. Many players are looking for instant equipment to boost their profession stats. This was evident back in Dragonflight, too!

Improvements to the Auction House:

I don’t know if this is an opinion shared across the community, but the Auction House feels smoother compared to posting before the release of The War Within. Anyway, this week, I returned to posting auctions, and admittedly, it’s been a slow process with little to no returns. I’m unsurprised, as many of the player base is venturing into the new world with many new activities.

To put it into context, spend 5 minutes on YouTube, and you can quickly see why – there’s so much to do, and gold is easily obtainable now from gathering, farming instances, and min-maxing The War Within professions. Ultimately, this is great for the GoldMaking community!

With any luck in the next few months, some of that earned gold will trickle down to old-world markets, where a valiant Grahran will be waiting with intent. Well, I can hope, right?! 😂

The Darkmoon Faire:

The faire is a couple of weeks away, and with increased activity across Azeroth, you’ll notice a significant decrease in the value of Darkmoon Artifacts. This change in supply is an ideal opportunity for players who purchase these to obtain Darkmoon Prize Tickets for Companion Pets and Replica Transmog.

While Replica Transmog’s value immediately plunged due to the changes to Warbound currency transfers, the market has slowly bounced back. I’m unsure at this time whether this reflects the new expansion or whether players are concentrating on content/GoldMaking within The War Within markets.

With the next Darkmoon Faire on the horizon, it’ll be interesting to see if there’s another knee-jerk reaction. If not, I’ll increase my posting operations to reflect the current valuations. I’m currently getting sales between 30 and 45k per piece, which is still an incredible return on investment!

Hopefully, Blizzard will look at the Darkmoon Faire (as they’re doing with the Timewalking event) and look to update the items available for purchase. What would you like to see if Blizzard looked to add new items to the vendors?
