The War Within – Profession Equipment
With players quickly adapting to the new content in The War Within, thanks to the Beta, it’s a crucial time to delve (intended pun) into the professions, mainly profession equipment. Understanding the significance of this equipment as we progress in our professions and craft various items is vital. Our chosen equipment will profoundly impact our performance, making it a crucial aspect of the game!

Disclaimer:
Please remember that the information I gathered in this article was from The War Within: Beta and information can and will change in the lead-up to the launch. The data was correct at the date of posting. Also, the profession equipment is locked at the base level, meaning there are currently no differing item levels depending on quality; expect it to unlock upon further testing.
Please comment below if there’s anything that needs adjusting.
What is Profession Equipment?
For those new to the game and unfamiliar with Dragonflight, profession equipment is vital to all professions. It offers benefits that enhance crafting and gathering abilities. Each profession requires a tool and two accessories (except Cooking and Fishing) that give the crafter or gatherer unique stats. The item level, quality, missives, and enchant will determine/increase these stats.
Fundamentally, the better the equipment, the better the crafter/gatherer! When you’ve crafted or purchased your equipment, right-click them to equip it to your profession panel. The image below outlines my current equipped profession equipment on the left-hand side!

Stats on Profession Equipment:
In this section, we’ll look at the stats on profession equipment. Tools include a random stat, Crafting Speed, Finesse, Perception, Multicraft, and Ingenuity. However, thanks to Optional Reagents, we can apply a missive that guarantees the stat we want instead. Bear in mind that a missive will increase the craft’s difficulty! Once you have your tool, remember to enchant it! The tool will also increase profession skills.
Each accessory will have two static stats based on the above stats and Resourcefulness. So, the earlier you equip these, the more stats you gain. Gatherers will be looking for either Finesse, Perception, and Deftness. Here’s an explanation of each stat and what they offer.
- Crafting Speed: reduces the time it takes to craft an item.
- Resourcefulness: offers a chance to refund reagents when crafting.
- Multicraft: has a chance to craft multiple items, except crafted gear!
- Perception: increases the chance to gather rare reagents.
- Deftness: reduces the time it takes to gather reagents.
- Finesse: can increase the amount of reagents you gather.
- Concentration and Ingenuity: are explained in the next section.
Concentration and Ingenuity in The War Within:
The War Within removes the lottery that Inspiration caused in Dragonflight when trying to reach the next quality. Instead, we have a new stat called Concentration. Within your profession panel, you will see a Concentration pool that refills over time. Now, you can guarantee that you will reach the next level by using the Concentration required.
For example, if you’re 60 points short of the next level, it will cost you 60 Concentration to reach that level; this is an excellent option if you’re trying to guarantee that five-star quality armor/weapon piece.
Furthermore, Ingenuity offers you a chance to have your Concentration refunded. The higher this stat is, the greater the chance of you gaining a refund, potentially costing you nothing for your boost!
The image below shows the Concentration in use. We’ve just surpassed 3-star quality; to guarantee that we will reach 4-star quality, we’ll need to spend 193 Concentration. To reduce Concentration costs, always use the best materials and get as close to the next quality as possible! You’ll also notice the Inspiration stat in the screenshot; this is a bug; the Inspiration stat is no longer available!

Important things to consider with Profession Equipment!
When The War Within launches, uncommon quality profession equipment will be widely available at the Auction House as players look to power-level their professions and offload their stock. As better crafters and materials become more accessible, they can craft rare quality profession equipment.
Remember that rare quality profession equipment is bind on pickup, meaning you can craft it yourself or create/complete a work order. Ensuring you have the required materials and commission will guarantee that someone with the level of skill needed will craft your equipment.
Profession Equipment Item Levels:
Another placeholder, the Public Test Realm (PTR), is only crafting the base profession equipment and not individual item levels depending on quality. There are currently five qualities; each should make a different item level. The issue is evident in both uncommon and rare items.
I will update this section once the PTR unlocks this option. For clarification, here’s an image outlining the different qualities, both having the same item level.

Obtaining Profession Equipment:
Each profession has its own unique set of profession equipment, which means you might need to explore other professions to obtain the right equipment. Alternatively, purchase the equipment from the Auction House or create a work order.
A reminder that the values of these items will be high at the start of the expansion due to the increased demand for materials. However, as the expansion progresses and the supply of materials increases, the value will decrease, following the basic principle of supply and demand.
Posting/purchasing Profession Equipment:
When posting and purchasing profession equipment, you must pay close attention to the item level. The default Auction House user interface will not consider matching the item levels; instead, undercutting the cheapest auction, resulting in undervaluing your equipment.
As a buyer, you can profit from this. If you remember, I was purchasing hundreds, if not thousands, of mispriced equipment in Dragonflight and either reposting or disenchanting for enchanting materials.
Specializing in Profession Equipment:
To increase your skill in creating profession equipment, you must reach the specific specialization paths, and each profession has different paths/specializations. To keep this section to a minimum, I will use Blacksmithing as an example.
For Blacksmithing, you must spend 10 points on Means of Production. Then, spend 10 points on Tools of the Trade. Then, you’ll choose either Trade Tools or Trade Accessories. You will need 30 points in Tools of the Trade to unlock both.
Maximizing your profession equipment crafts will take 100 specialization points; this includes 30 in Means of Production, 30 in Tools of the Trade, and 20 in each, Trade Tools and Trade Accessories.

What Equipment does each profession need/craft?
Here’s a rundown of each profession, the equipment they can use, and the profession that can craft it in brackets. I’ve listed the professions alphabetically, not in order of importance or value. Gathering and Alchemy professions cannot craft equipment, and Cooking has one accessory! Fishing only has a tool slot, but unsure if this is an error!

The War Within: Beta
If you want to test the new expansion, The War Within, and pre-ordered the Epic version, you can access the Beta today! Alternatively, players without the Epic version can sign up on the World of Warcraft website for Beta access. However, this does not guarantee access; only the Epic version guarantees access!

Conclusion:
There are many sections above that are awaiting updates. I’ve used placeholders so I can come back once the Public Test Realm has lifted some of the issues. Keep an eye on my socials for updates!
Profession equipment can be very profitable in the first few days of the expansion launch. Everyone will be power-leveling their professions, looking to squeeze every ounce of their stats/skill. Picking/using the best specialization will offer you a headstart on your competition.
With The War Within and the ease of alts, this expansion may be the best opportunity to have alts with multiple professions with different specializations. Many of the successful gold-makers in Dragonflight were successful because they were able to cover all professions and specializations.
Ultimately, this incurs a lot of work and management, but it’s well worth the effort. I’d suggest using spreadsheets to track alts, professions, and specializations. Importantly, set your goals early and where you want to concentrate – which will be gold-making and turning the most profit!
If this article is well received, I’ll consider writing on each profession in The War Within. Remember to like and share if you found the article informative!
