The Darkmoon Faire in The War Within

The Darkmoon Faire, in The War Within!

The Darkmoon Faire in The War Within:

This week marks the second appearance of the Darkmoon Faire during the new expansion: The War Within. Some of you may have noticed a significant increase in the values of various items associated with the Darkmoon Faire. Today’s article covers what I’ve been doing and what you can do to prepare for the faire!

More importantly, here’s how I’ve made almost 30m gold from selling Darkmoon Daggermaw and Darkmoon Firewater!

When Does the Darkmoon Faire Arrive?

The Darkmoon Faire will arrive (tomorrow) on Sunday, October 6th, at 00:01 and leave on Saturday, October 12th, at 23:59.

Activities to do During the Darkmoon Faire?

There are plenty of activities to complete during the seven-day event; here’s a to-do list of activities. For a detailed article covering everything available, check out my article, The Darkmoon Faire.

To-do list:

Darkmoon Faire Markets:

Significant markets are associated with the Darkmoon Faire, which has earned me millions of gold since 2015 and was one of the foundations for this blog/website. Below, I will add some information, including recent sales, to offer reassurance in those markets.

Darkmoon Daggermaw:

Darkmoon Daggermaw is a fish players can fish up from pools around the shores of Darkmoon Island. Pay close attention to Salvaged Crates from Shipwrecked Debris; these can increase your yield for Darkmoon Daggermaw (via Bloated Thresher) and Darkmoon Firewater.

While fishing can be monotonous, there are other options available. I have been able to purchase Darkmoon Daggermaw for between 8g each since 2015, meaning that over that time, I’ve amassed over 1.7m Daggermaw. Thanks to the Warband Bank, it was easier to consolidate all the Darkmoon Daggermaw into one character, making it easier to repost expired auctions. Sadly, with five accounts, it’s hard to consolidate the data via TSM.

With the increased interest in the Darkmoon Faire, new alts, and an increased demand in Darkmoon Firewater, it’s never been a better time to sell Darkmoon Daggermaw. I’m selling at (average) 26g each, almost 20g profit per fish. The value will go down next week but slowly increase a few weeks after the closure of the faire.

Here is my TSMAddon Ledger data for Darkmoon Daggermaw. My sales are for the last 30 days, and my purchases are based on all-time! This is data specific to one account!

In short, I’ve invested approximately 14.9m gold over the last nine years, and as of today (Saturday, October 5th), I’ve earned 24.6m gold! Bear in mind that I still have over 900k Darkmoon Daggermaw! If these don’t sell before tomorrow, they will be stockpiled until the faire leaves or traded in for Darkmoon Firewater and Darkmoon Cooking Recipes.

Darkmoon Firewater:

For those familiar with the release of Dragonflight and the new profession system, you’ll be aware of gathering specializations that concentrate on Finesse and Perception. Instead of putting points into Deftness, players use Darkmoon Firewater, increasing gathering speed for Skinning, Herbalism, and Mining.

This method increased the demand for Darkmoon Firewater, and that’s no different in The War Within. With that in mind, I stockpiled Firewater over the last two years and have been offloading it throughout the month; the profit margins are incredible!

Here are some screenshots outlining what I purchased and sold via my mailbox and TSMAddon Ledger. You’ll notice that the Ledger incorrectly calculated my income, as there are apparent discrepancies between the amount of gold received from the mailbox and the data collected on my TSMLedger. The Ledger merely shows you the price I paid for the Darkmoon Firewater.

Sadly, many of my sales came at the 350g and 750g mark—later this week, the value exceeded 1000g each! However, not to be disheartened, I fortunately found another 3k Darkmoon Firewater in my alts bank, which I’m selling at 950g each!

Replica Trasnmog:

I will be honest. On the release of Warbands with the pre-patch of The War Within, I felt this market would suffer. Thanks to the Warband system, we can transfer currencies and consolidate them into one character. Purchasing Replica Transmog and transferring them to low/medium populated realms was easier.

Upon the Darkmoon Faire’s first arrival since the pre-patch’s release, Replica Transmog values crashed. My sales were around 25-29k per piece, significantly lower than the usual 60-99k. Thankfully, the values slowly increased last month after The War Within release.

I’ve made sales around the 50k mark, and in certain realms, values are slowly reaching 70-80k again. However, I’m yet to make a sale at this price point. Interestingly, with things settling down in The War Within, how will the market react after this week’s Darkmoon Faire? Time will tell!

If this market interests you, consider completing the one-time quest: Silas’ Secret Stash, handing in the Darkmoon Artifacts and participating in many other activities that reward Darkmoon Prize Tickets. I concentrated on the Artifacts; they cost me between 2.5k and 9k gold for all nine and gave me enough tickets for one piece of Replica Transmog.

Completing this on your alts will give you a substantial inventory of Replica Transmog. As mentioned earlier, consider moving these to low/medium populated realms to increase your chances of a sale. If you earn a sale above 25k, that’s a good return on investment!

Darkmoon Faire Cooking Recipes:

Now, if you invested gold in the Darkmoon Daggermaw and its value has significantly decreased, potentially causing a loss on a sale, consider waiting for the next Darkmoon Faire and purchasing the two Lemon Herb Fillet recipes.

These recipes cost 10 Darkmoon Daggermaw and can sell for between 2 and 4k gold each! I sell these regularly every month. If this doesn’t work for you, also consider cooking the fish. For some unknown reason, the six varieties of fish do return a small profit at the Auction House.

Feedback from a Reader:

I hope Vláďa doesn’t mind me sharing this, but he asked an excellent question on my Facebook page that I felt would benefit this article. I can also offer more insight into my reasoning.

Question regarding Darkmoon Daggermaw/Firewater

As a reminder, the exchange rate is 25 Darkmoon Daggermaw for one Darkmoon Firewater. If he were to buy Darkmoon Daggermaw at 21g each, he would need to sell Firewater at 551g to break even. Considering the current value was 800g, there was a potential 250g profit margin.

Now, if you have gold available that you’re willing to gamble with, then feel free to invest gold in Darkmoon Daggermaw, and when the faire arrives, trade in for Darkmoon Firewater, but remember, there’s potential for the wider audience to follow suit, affecting potential returns.

It’s important to remind anyone considering any market I’ve mentioned above of the importance of supply and demand. I can’t stress this enough. When demand exceeds supply, values increase; when supply exceeds demand, the value decreases.

If you check the Undermine Exchange, you will see this shown on both Darkmoon Daggermaw and Darkmoon Firewater. The value decreases when the faire is open, and there’s an increased supply of these items. Shortly after the faire closes, the values slowly increase as the supply lowers!

This market has garnered a lot of interest over the last few weeks. Many players will be looking to take advantage of it, thus potentially saturating the market. If you have the gold spare, then there’s potential to profit from the increased demand. But be patient, and wait a few weeks after the faire has left!

The Darkmoon Daggermaw could fall to 15-20g when the faire arrives. If this price point interests you, invest a small amount of gold. If you trade the Daggermaw for Darkmoon Firewater, which you bought at the price point above, ensure you sell the Firewater above 600g to make a profit!

I will be brutally honest. Had it not been for the Auction House issues during the first week of The War Within, I’d have sold these then. The current value for Darkmoon Firewater was between 200 and 250g. Once Blizzard fixed the Auction House, the prices increased exponentially! However, I purchased the Firewater for 75g, which was still profitable at 200g!

Conclusion:

A Gold Maker makes a lot of gold within a specific market and shares its success. The reader/viewer wants to get involved, too, thus incurring increased interest in the market. This increased activity can inadvertently and often saturate that market. Ultimately, what was once a profitable, small niche market will soon become unprofitable as those joining in for instant profit fight for that sale.

At this point, the only winner is the consumer, as the value dwindles, and those who invest lose potential profit trying to cancel scan to be first in, first out. I can’t emphasize this enough: only invest the gold you’re willing to lose. It’s the same as gambling at the bookmakers. Nothing is ever guaranteed, or everyone will be doing it!

Consider the information I’ve shared above, use the Undermine Exchange for data, and follow trends. To increase your profit margins, especially with items from a limited-time event, post your items 2-3 weeks after the event has finished! Concerning the Darkmoon Faire, this gives you two weeks to sell your stock before it returns.
