Update Your Addons!
With Phase One of the Dragonflight Pre-Patch releasing during the last reset, it’s imperative that during these early iterations of the expansion, you frequently update your Addons! As many streamers hint, Phase One appears to be an open Beta – so expect more changes throughout the patch!
Addons:
Dragonflight is no different from previous expansion releases; the new expansion will change a lot of the old game files, which in turn impacts the stability of Addons. Although many Addon developers have worked hard throughout the Beta phase to ensure Addons were ready for release, you may still experience issues.
World of Warcraft developers are still making iterations to the game; this will impact the Addon developer’s work, so you must regularly check your Addons for updates.
For the time being, consider downloading and importing the Addons BugGrabber & BugSack. They will pull all your Addon errors from the chat window and place them in a bag – out of sight, out of mind!
If you wish to find an error in an Addon that appears to be conflicting with something, you can click on the BugSack icon and check through the errors.
Addon Error Reporting:
You can also help developers by reporting errors to an Addon. If you see an error, go to the Addons Github, Discord, or the comment section for the Addon and if there’s no report yet, report it! As advised on the Addons Description: Don’t report errors that have already been reported!
Reporting errors will help speed up the process of fixing conflicting Addons.
User Interface (UI):
As I’ve commented on already, Dragonflight introduces a new Default UI which, if I’m honest, looks good! However, there are some small things they’ve missed out on, which I’ll add below.
- Micro Bar/Bag Bar adjustable.
- Reveal hidden Action Bars when you hover over them.
- Option for Combined Bag for Bank Tabs/Bags.
If the developers can improve these, I will reconsider using the Default UI; however, at this time, I’ll be staying with ElvUI and TukUI. If you opt to continue using them, keep updating them regularly through their client!
Gold-Making with TradeSkillMaster (TSM):
TradeSkillMaster (TSM) is no different from other Addons; if you’re a Gold-Maker like me, you must be patient while Sapu and his team develop TSM for Dragonflight.
Many changes will impact TSM, especially with the Profession Overhaul. But more importantly, other additions to Dragonflight (i.e. Crafting Orders) may continue to hinder TSM’s development.
Crafting Orders hasn’t even been tested on Beta yet, so there’s no way TSM can implement any changes regarding it. So keep your TSM App open, and it will automatically download and install any future TSM updates!
Supporting Addon Developers:
Most Addon developers do this as a full-time/part-time job, so if you’re in a position to, please consider donating or subscribing to them. Most have a Patreon, Subscription plan, or PayPal for donations!
I appreciate the work that many Addon developers do, I can’t subscribe/donate to them all, but I hope that by sharing their work throughout my blog, someone else can. We’d soon realize their hard work if the time came when they couldn’t continue to develop our beloved Addons.
It’s reassuring to know that clients like Curse Forge offer a 70% monetary kickback through their advertising; this may not be a lot to some developers, but I’m sure it helps!
