Good evening guys. If the Argent Tournament Ground gave you nightmares during Wrath of the Lich King and you thought you’d finally got away from those blasted dailies, well Blizzard has been so kind as to offer us some more. This time with the lure of gear for your alts and if you’re like me, for your lazy main character too. It’s imperative that I inform you, that if you were affected by the Nathanos loot issue, Blizzard has since reset it and given those affected the chance to kill and loot him once more.
What is the Scourge Invasion?
The Scourge Invasion is the next chapter of the pre-patch, in the build-up to the release of Shadowlands. If like me, you have many level 50’s that are inadequately geared (my main included), then this stage is for you! There is a straight forward quest chain to complete before you get the opportunity to hand Nathanos Blightbringer the good news – the reward? an ilvl 115 item!
Our journey then continues in to Northrend and our next objective is to complete the quests in the Argent Tournament grounds. Once this set of quests are completed it will open up the scourge invasion dailies.
The Rares:
There are 20 rares which spawn in chronological order within the zone: Icecrown, these are summoned by a Mawsworn Soulbearer. There is an alert in chat and an icon on the map informing all players that a rare is spawning. Once spawned there’s approximately 1 minute of dialog before the rare enters combat, then it’s quickly killed.
If you’re being helpful or want information regarding the spawn location of a Rare, ask/post in chat using the new Map Pin option. It’s easy to use and once players click on the [<> Map Pin Location], as shown below, their Map will open with a pin locating the Rare. A lot easier than searching by coordinates.
If you’d like an addon to assist you instead, I’d recommend:
Handynotes: Scourge Invasion of Shadowlands you will need Handynotes for this to work!

TomCat’s Tours

- Patchwerk [36.67] (Enter the cave at [23.53])

The Loot:
Each rare drops a specific set of ilvl 110 items, click on the rare above, to view their loot table. They also drop Darkened Scourgestone and Pitch Black Scourgestone, and a very small chance to drop the Accursed Keepsake.
Be aware that two rares also drop significant items.
Skadi the Ruthless – Reins of the Blue Proto-Drake
Bronjahm – Papas Mint Condition Bag (Unique 34 slot bag)
It’s important to add that the Neck, Rings and Trinket are only available from rares!
The Vendor:
If you’re not fortunate to have looted what you wish from the rares, you can use your looted Darkened Scourgestone, or Pitch Black Scourgestone to trade into Argent Commendation. The Commendations are a currency to purchase ilvl 100 items, Anti-Doom Broom, and a Companion Pet: Putrid Geist.
I’ll be brutally honest, I’m surprised they didn’t make the Anti-Doom Broom a toy.
As mentioned previously, these vendors do not sell Necks, Rings and Trinkets. You will need to continue defeating the specific rares to earn those pieces.
Useful Item:
This teleports the bearer to the Argent Tournament Grounds. If you do not have the tabard, I’d suggest setting your hearthstone here, to make things easier. If you have a Dalaran Hearthstone, use this to hearth to Dalaran and use the portals to gain access back to your Factions City.
Champion’s Argent Tournament Dailies:
A statement informing anyone that has since completed the quest A Message from Icecrown, that they will not be able to continue with their Champion’s Argent Crusade dailies until the invasion has finished, this will last 2 weeks. If you have the quest still, you can abandon it and relog, once back in-game to continue your dailies as usual. [Source: Wowhead]
Although the dailies are unavailable, the vendors for your factions can still be accessed, if you wish to spend your Champion’s Seals.
Gold-Making Potential:
The notable items of interest is obviously the Accursed Keepsake and the Companion Pet: Putrid Geist.
The Accursed Keepsake has a very small chance to drop from each Rare. Simply keep this item in your bag, and a transparent soul will follow you. Think of it like the Haunted Memento. Below are the Region Market Average (RMA) for the Accursed Keepsake via The Undermine Journal. Expect these prices to drop as the event prolongs, but immediately start increasing once the event has finished.
Be aware that this item is unique, only one can be within your inventory at any one given time.
Region | RMA |
---|---|
U.S | 70,900g |
E.U | 49,888g |
The Putrid Geist will cost you 15 Argent Commendation. The benefit of this item, is once purchased, learn the Companion Pet and then cage it. Below are the Region Market Average (RMA) for the pet via The Undermine Journal. Expect these prices to drop as the event prolongs, but immediately start increasing once the event has finished.
A level 25 Putrid Geist will be a lot more expensive.
Region | RMA |
---|---|
U.S | 7,777g |
E.U | 5,416g |
